"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Green for Ordinary Time

Hancock United Church of Christ   Lexington, MA

The church year is divided up into seasons represented by different colors.....Advent is blue, Christmas, Epiphany and Easter are white, Lent is purple, Pentecost is red, and Ordinary Time is green. I have been working with the project group at church and my friend Joan making banners and new paraments for these different seasons.

For Ordinary Time we used architectural features of the sanctuary to inspire our design in this parament.

We cut out the shapes from fabric and fused them onto a black background fabric giving it a stained glass effect.

On the left below is the inspiration stained glass window in the chancel and on the right is the inspiration grate work that covers the organ pipes in the front of the sanctuary.

My not so ordinary husband Paul...
in action during Ordinary Time.  My

good friend Joan made Paul this
green stole.  Thanks Joan!

  1. This project really opened my eyes to the possibilities of fabric fusing. Thanks MaryAnn!
