Clean and Simple

It is better to do something than to do nothing while waiting to do everything. Winston Churchill

That's how I feel sometimes this time of year as I anticipate a quiet winter and everything I want to do in the studio. But had a couple nice walks and did more garden cleanup today and most of the screens are washed. So that's something!

I'm not sure if I shared this print before...I painted it several weeks ago and just turned it into a card to get in the mail....and that's something too.

I love the simple layers of leaves...and just a touch of soft green watercolor. I tucked the print into a Michaels pre-made frame card and stitched around edge. It's clean and simple and in the mail as a thank you note to Bill and Kaki.

I don't know what I love more about this moment on my morning walk....the frosty edge of the vivid red leaf...or the shadows. Clean and simple joy!

  1. What a wonderfully clean and simple post, MaryAnn! The card you made for Bill and Kaki is clean and simple in all the best ways: clean lines with great contrast, simple layers, rounded edges in the pre-made frame of the card to contrast with corners elsewhere and with pointy-tipped leaf images, and stitching to add texture and just enough detail and not too much. Beautiful balance!

And that exquisitely frosted-outline around the bright red and shadows of the leaf! The best! We have a photograph of that ilk framed and hanging in our guest room—never get tired of it.

    1. Thanks for the validation Dotty! I love how you notice all the little details in something as simple as this card! Thank you! So fun that you have a similar frosted framed piece in your guest room. I don't think either of us will ever grow tired of these images!

  2. A simply beautiful, frost outlined leaf, and such a lovely card - two example of how striking simplicity can be! Love that card, MaryAnn.
