"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

A Motto a Month

My friend Anne gave me a little tear off "Motto Calendar" in a Christmas card a couple years ago like the one you see here. It's put out by the Quakers and each month has 4-5 quotes or scriptures.  She was looking for a project we could could share...and thought the calendar could be our inspiration.

There is no website...but here is their information.

I had a couple accordion book kits from the Paper source and sent one to Anne. It comes with a pre-folded card stock book and two cover boards and can be found here.  We decided we would choose one quote every month and use all or part of it and illustrate it. We would keep one, mail one, keep one...etc. In the end it would be a mixture of both of our work.

For the cover I used torn pieces
of the used calendar along with
colored tissue and collaged them
onto the cover boards using matte medium.

"If you have a goal in life that takes lots of energy, that requires a lot of work, that incurs a great deal of interest and that is a challenge to you, you will always look forward to waking up to see what the next day brings."

Susan Polis Schutz

Anne made this one all wrapped up like a present.  I believe she created the dove paper on her computer. The gift tag reads:
"Peace is our gift to each other."

Elie Wiesel

Anatole France

William James

I will share the other side of the book tomorrow.
