"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Cranberry Island Congregational Church
There are only a few public buildings on the island....and I was wrong about the cars. There are no car ferries...so they have to come over on a barge...so many of the locals have cars but they just leave them here. There are lots of golf carts and other interesting little vehicles.
This is the parsonage...which has been home sweet home for this trip. It's centrally located on Cranberry Road...the main road across the island.......so it's easy to get just about anywhere.Thursday, July 6, 2023
Lupine
Day Two.....the lupine.
Cranberry Island is 2 miles long and 1 mile wide. It feels like rural Maine...with quiet coastal charm. People are sitting on their porches....and everyone waves. It's not flashy or fancy...it's more rustic and folksy....the kind of place I could picture Miss Rumphius spreading her lupin seeds.
The lupine must have been beautiful in their prime....and they're everywhere! Now they're mostly wabi-sabi wonderful. What I have seen so far...the whole island is a little wabi-sabi...fabulous in its weathered imperfection.
