"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Doodling and Coloring

I was excited to come home to my first pink rain lily blooms! The foliage is still filling in...but it always throws up a few teaser blooms early in the season. It's loving the summer weather.

Right behind it...the Bowman's root is in full bloom...and my sweet little yellow day lilies are  starting to bloom. I love my June garden.

Before we had headed to Deer Isle....I did a little slow doodling on the patio.

I drew the whimsical little Bowman's root stars over and over. It was meditative and relaxing.

I took it with me in the car....and using a few colored pencils colored in the flowers. Not sure what's next with this...but doodling and coloring is good for the soul.

  1. The photos from your trip were beautiful, MaryAnn, and I'm so glad you had a great time. I love seeing the flower photos you share and the names of the flowers as I am not a gardener. I did plant a few geraniums and impatiens in a small garden near our driveway, but our hydrangeas and day lilies are the easy care, colorful displays in our yard. And I have to agree that doodling and using colored pencils are very calming pursuits! I'm hoping to finish filling one of my joy journals this week and will share the results with you. Judy

    1. Thanks Judy! It was a delightfully packed two days! You don't have to be a gardener to enjoy flowers...and it sounds like you have just the right mix. Looking forward to seeing your joy journals....but are they ever really finished?

  2. We'll be returning from time away at the other end of today, a little anxious about how our gardens fared in our absence—what with weather, deer, rabbits, and turkeys, it's anyone's guess. Your rain lilies, Bowman's root, and yellow day lilies give me hope! They're glorious, MaryAnn.

Thank you for your reminder-by-example to invite slow doodling to be part of my re-entry plan. Your whimsical little doodled Bowman's root stars are so appealing, both in the inklines and the coloring.

    1. I hope your time away was restorative and joy filled. I know what you mean about the gardens holding up while you're away. Hopefully there was just enough rain to keep them thriving.....and that the wildlife has not done too much damage. We had so many rabbits in Lexington...but none here yet. And the deer seem to leave my plants mostly alone.

The slow doodling has been such a wonderful thing for me as we head into summer. It doesn't even matter what the outcome is....it's just a good thing to do.
