I needed a few cards to send....so I had a cyanotype session yesterday. My main goal was to play around with some small pin oak leaves from our front yard in honor of the season. Ironically enough...pin oaks generally go from green straight to brown...but I took some artistic license and gave them more color.
As I look at these photos...I realize they are different prints. I did several...so I have more to paint And aren't the blues are so much prettier in natural light.Everything changed when I splattered the gold.....it seemed to bring the print it to life!

I'm so glad you are a licensed artist, MaryAnn! And make no mistake, paint splattering is an art (a very unpredictable art in my own hands, I have to admit) and you've practiced it here w/ grand finesse. Love your cyanotype all stitched in place on the card.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know a pin oak from whatever other kinds of oaks there are, but I did see some surprisingly (surprising to me, anyway) colorful oak leaves when we were in away last week; I think of oak leaves going mostly many beautiful browns.
I've definitely had paint splatters go wrong....but I keep at it and I do love the unpredictability of it. It seems to make the piece more organic. I didn't know about pin oaks until I moved here...the leaves are much smaller and they have different shape than regular oaks. I'm going to try and get a photo of our pin oak today!
DeleteBeautiful, MaryAnn! The gold spatter did, indeed, bring your card to life :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cherie! I thought so too!
