"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Tucked In

As I was driving into the Maine Audubon to get bird seed...I was stopped in my tracks by this lollipop shaped tree. I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers!

There was a light frost here in Portland while we were away...almost all of the tender plants were nipped. So I've spent some time over the past couple of days cutting things back and doing some other fall chores.

I love everything about this time of year...the colors...the dying and cutting back...getting the plants tucked in for the winter season.

I look forward to the nesting inside season....especially because that means more time for art!

Paul and I enjoy being out on the patio under out blankets for as long as we can. We love the way the late afternoon sun plays with the colors in the woods as it turns more and more yellow...on its way to brown. Pretty soon the woods will be all tucked in too! I love this time of year!

  1. Autumn is a spectacular time of change! Dave is our gardener and he has been busy busy busy with the seasonal shift. Indoors, several rooms in our home glow magnificently as light travels through the large maple in our front yard. Today I laced my grapevine wreath with its annual bedecking using bright bittersweet berries. All wonderful!

    1. The glow of the seasonal shift happens inside and out. I can just picture the light in your home Dotty! I'm wondering if your bittersweet is real or fake. I absolutely love the look of it...but am fearful of it taking root. Thanks for celebrating autumn with me!!

  2. This is my favorite time as well. Comfort clothes, food, and time with friends and family. What could be better?

  3. Me, too, I love fall! I even love the shorter days as it feels more peaceful, if that makes any sense at all. There is such beauty in the fall colors and in the revealing of the tree branches as the leaves fall. Walking on crunchy leaves, kicking little leaf piles in the air, oh so many things to love about fall…..except my husband continually saying, “Winter is coming”, lol.

    1. I'm with you....so it totally makes sense! I love it all! Paul and I always wonder who's going to be the first one to say "I'm ready for fall" on the first hot day. I just love being tucked in...and snowed in!

  5. Our color is just thinking about getting started (more like where you were in Nashville). I'm so enjoying the colors others are showing. And I totally agree about the October afternoon sunshine being magnificent.
