"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Just For Me

Most of my creative energy has gone into making joy journals for other people....and that's been just what I've needed and wanted to do. But I also realized I needed to sneak in some creative time just for me here and there.

So a week or two ago I pulled out my latest Florals Upon Florals joy journal that I assembled back at the beginning of February. I've been tucking in florals that I've come across in my stash...and just recently I started layering them into the journal.

It's been so much fun!

The base pages are gelli prints and other found papers....some are even just plain. They are different sizes and oriented either up...down....or centered because I wanted them to overlap so I could create a layered floral effect. It's a process I learned while making the Playful Pages journal. I want to work in that journal too!

I love the layered look!

It looks a little crazy busy and intense in the photos...but when I'm holding it in my hands....it doesn't feel that way. It just makes me happy.

I do have a little regret about the orange fabric....I wish I would have chosen something softer like pink....but I'm making it work.

What you can see here is one of Lynn's leaf cutouts...blue flowers from a Gudrun's catalog.....and the layers of pink florals at the bottom are from gifted tissues from Judy

As I uncover more found flowers I'm tucking them for in for the rest of the book. Some things I've had for years and it's so nice to have a place for them.
Here's a little tour of what I have so far....I'm not quite 1/2 way through.

Clearly something needs to go on the back of this page...but I'll figure it ou.

This is a copy of one of Connie's watercolors....so it gets a page all its own.

I'm having fun with florals upon florals....just for me.

  1. I feel satisfyingly suffused with florals upon florals, color upon color, leaf upon petal upon stem, peace upon peace. In the sharing of your treating yourself to playing/developing this joy journal of your own, you have nourished me as well, for which I thank you heartily, MaryAnn. Two favorites: the butterfly! the gifted tissues!

    1. Thanks Dotty! Those are two of my favorite moments too. I just adore those tissue flowers....and so tickled they came to me via my joy journal journey with her. Full circle joy!

  2. Hmmmm, you might find the orange gives a good background for your flowers to show up on. This is such a lovely start to your flower journal 😊
