"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

43

Many of you have heard all this before...but here I go again. How can I not?

Paul and I got married 43 years ago today...the day after we graduated from college. We didn't have much money....so we kept it pretty simple....and it was perfect!

One of my favorite memories of that day is when we asked some of the neighbors in the small college town of Lamoni, Iowa that morning if we could pick flowers from their yard to decorate the church. We got an overwhelming response.

Here, my sisters LaVonn and Nancy are working on the arrangements.

This is one of my favorite photos.

I actually think Paul still looks at me that way....sometimes.
I know I post these same photos every year...but isn't that part of what you do on an anniversary. Paul and I had a great day together today.

My dad wasn't well, so this was probably a difficult trip for him.

He died the following December.
Our very simple, but thoughtful invitation.

An artist friend designed the cover to our program. I had forgotten how special it was.

I can't imagine life without this wonderful man.

  1. I always remember that you got married the day after our first date. When he arrived at my door for our blind date my heart said “I’m going to marry this man.” Then he told me his recipe for hollandaise sauce, then at the end of the date he said “the next time we get together shall we do something with your daughter?” 💕💕💕

    1. Nice to be reminded of that Ann. Nariman really nailed it didn't he! Little did he know that he had you at "hello!"

  2. I totally love these pix and the simplicity of your wedding. Big smile when you mentioned asking a neighbor if you could pick flowers from their yard—just a few days ago I was telling my granddaughter about the centerpieces for Dave's and my wedding reception. I'd purchased small pumpkins and gourds from a local farm, and then on the morning of our wedding collected bright New England October foliage from the church yard to create 'doilies' by arranging leaves under the bright pumpkins and gourds : )

Hi five to you and Paul for growing and nourishing your love together for these past 43 years ❤️🥂
