"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Our Iowa

This made me chuckle....because it's so true: The immediate peace that comes from turning off the exhaust fan on the stove.

As I mentioned....many of Diane's papers came from Iowa magazines....and I knew I was going to use this bird for the first page. The OUR iowa title was a the perfect nod to our common past.

Diane also provided a several pieces of card stock...some of them striped with different metallic designs. I used it for cover pockets...and had enough to embellish quote cards that she provided that I tucked in both the front and back pockets.

I cut around the right hand edge and layered it over an Iowa corn field on the next page. I collaged the back of it with more of Diane's bird images giving the page more heft.

The cornfield wrapped around the page and became a pocket for a pullout cardinal.

The back edge of the pullout is from a meditation Diane included. It was two pages...and I used the second page for the gelli print on the next page.

A quilt on a garage as seen on yesterday's walk....

...and 40 little Gee's Bend quilts on my table.
I finished it yesterday...and I'm already sorting pieces for the next one.

  1. No end of things to celebrate here: the PEACE that comes from turning off the exhaust fan on the stove (that's a biggie for me!); the magic of the collaboration of Diane's selecting papers to send to you and your turning your vision and imagination to create from those selections a JOY JOURNAL extraordinaire (that cornfield wrapped around a page to become a pocket for a pullout cardinal!); that wonderful quilt on the outside of a barn near you; and 40 little Gee's Bend quilts on your table, with pieces for the next puzzle already being sorted. You are rich beyond measure, MaryAnn!

  2. Every time you post about a journal you're making, I look back at mine and notice different things. I don't think I ever told you that I love the Joyful Puttering card you tucked into the front pocket - so whimsical! I love the cardinal peeking out of a pocket in your current creation. I think I'll spend some time today working in one of my joy journals! I'm inspired!
