"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Grown Up

I don't think I could have packed more joy into a day. My heart is full.

Eliza and Barbara stopped in for lunch....Barbara is Paul's successor at Hancock Church in Lexington, MA. This was Eliza's third year at a summer camp in Maine...so they have been stopping in on their way...or their way home from camp each year.

Eliza and I were been art buddies for several years...trading things back and forth including homemade art journals. She's a pretty special young lady and I cherish that time we shared.

Eliza is much more grown up now....almost as tall as me. Although our relationship has shifted...I still feel a strong connection to her. Maybe I can foster something new....and more grown up.

This is one of my favorite photos.

I put "Eliza" in the search box in the upper left corner of my blog and all the posts about her and our shared art and time together came up. I loved looking them all over again. Back in 2021 I made us each a little art journal...and we decorated our own covers. We traded them back and forth so each one is filled with both our art. Little did I know at the time that these were actually Joy Journals!

Today was also Lori Austill's open studio....and it was so much fun seeing her beautiful and the space where she creates. Her art for sale was hanging all through her home. I'm going back tomorrow....so more to come. I wrote about a unusual interaction with Lori here in this post.

  1. Thanks for sharing your sweet day, MaryAnn. Ours was filled with a visit from longtime friends in the area today and tomorrow from Maine, staying with us. Very relaxing and nourishing to have them here … even after two weeks of nonstop revolving door family in house with only one day since they all departed! As was the case for you, so much joy packed into our day; hearts full here, too. Grateful for the joy at your end and ours : )

    1. There nothing better than connecting with longtime friends! Aren't we lucky to have our days packed with joy. The busy people filled days...and the quiet ones too.

  2. Oh my, I just love your bond with Eliza! I looked back on your previous posts about her and could see your lovely art connection with her, so filled with joy! I think that you have some of that childlike joy when you create, MaryAnn, and I love that! I was looking back on some of my posts from years ago and could see it in my own work, but now I spend so much time scrolling other people's art I feel self conscious about my own. I miss having a blog, which is more private than Instagram, but blogger keeps blocking me from posting photos! Sorry for going on about this! Looking forward to seeing more about your visit to Lori's studio! Meanwhile, hope you're having a great day!

    1. Thank you for taking the time to scroll back through the Eliza posts! We have quite a history. And I agree...much of my art has a childlike feel. Sounds like you can relate.

I know what you mean about scrolling other's art. I'm inspired by it...and I try not to let it hold me back but propel me forward.

I love blogging for that very reason....it's private and seems more intimate. And no one is trying to sell me anything or push their agenda. It's just what I want and need it to be. I'm baffled why blogger is not letting you post photos. Do you use blogspot? Or another service? I think I remember reading somewhere that there is a limit on photos. If I reach it....I will stop. I can't do this without photos.

I'll keep you posted on my second visit to Lori's studio.

    1. Oh...it was so good seeing you too and hearing all about camp. I have loved doing art with you too and it would be wonderful to do more. I'm going on a trip pretty soon but I'm going to start thinking about it.

I hope you have a great summer! Let's stay in touch.
