"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Sight to Behold

We have a couple of hummingbirds that visit on a regular basis. There may be more...but we only see two at a time and they don't seem to be very friendly as they shoo each other away from the flowers and feeder. I plant annuals every year that I know they will love...but they still also choose to drink from the feeder. We love having them around.

This little guy perched on a bare twig on the tree by the patio...and just hung out for a while just looking around. His/her tiny black silhouette against the blue sky was a sight to behold.

Remember what E. B. White said....always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder.

  1. And hummingbirds are SUCH a wonder! They have held a very special place in my heart ever since I (and by "I" I mostly mean a National Geographic magazine article) wrote a hummingbird report in 6th grade. They visit our gardens with just enough infrequency to astonish and delight each time, never becoming commonplace. Recently, one joined me on the back deck as I ate lunch, hovering at my eye level and we communed : )
