"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Prussian Blue

Every day I wonder what has happened to our country.

It makes me sad, angry and worried,
I think it's time to attend another rally.

But making stuff helps me balance it with some joy.

I had my first gelli printing session with some of my wire vine. It's been a while since I've printed anything...and it generally takes me a few rounds to get into my groove.

Since I was using acrylic paint I could have chosen ANY color. But I chose Prussian blue...just like the cyanotypes. That made me chuckle.

Some of these may get another layer...and I will certainly try them in another color.

But I'm happy with them so far. They're kind of watercolory and have a lot of texture.

Most of the magic happens on the ghost prints with the leaf impressions that were left on the plate after the first pull. Once that paint was dry...I applied white paint to one and dark to another to pick up the print. I love all the little details...a few leaf folds came through beautifully on the white one.

And speaking of blue....Clarke knitted me this beautiful scarf. I really didn't plan my outfit for this post...but I guess I wrapped myself in Prussian blue today!

The pattern is just beautiful! Thank you Clarke! I love it!

  1. MaryAnn, I'm sitting here laughing, having just wondered how you found the time to engage in so much creative activity today … my laughter comes from the fact that I have spent hours and hours of my day also making stuff, also balancing sad, angry, and worried with the joy and absorption of creating! Lucky us!

The prints from your gelli plate and wire vine are beautiful. I agree, softly watercolory and textural. I love the display photo that looks as though it's bolts of fabric!

And that scarf from Clarke is fabulous! Very appealing pattern and style with those tapered ends. Great job, Clarke!

Thanks for the thumbs up on the prints...and yes they look like bolts of fabric. I'm going to keep playing around with wire vine...I'm fascinated by it.

      Yes...those tapered ends! Fabulous indeed!

  3. Wonderful, wonderful wire vine. I have to look those up. And wow, what a beautiful scarf - perfect outfit. I know what you mean - sad and frustrating world but hard to have an affect. Joy is around but takes lots of focus to find some days.

  6. Yes, I agree that making things helps to balance the insanity that is going on in our country! Thank heaven for color and beauty, including the lovely blues in your prints and scarf, MaryAnn. That vine creates such a lovely print with beautiful detail. We are so fortunate to have creativity in our lives, especially during these worrisome times! Judy
