"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Cracks and Crevices

I enjoy this simple painting technique....and have used it several times over the years.

I painted white acrylic swirls with a fine line applicator. After it was dry I added the watercolor. It's easy to paint inside the spaces because the paint acts as a resist.

I love the way the watercolor stains the paint here and there and settles into the little cracks and crevices created by the paint application.

It's quite a satisfying process.

  1. MaryAnn, your swirls are a delight! They feel light and carefree, like bubbles. I admire your dexterity in creating them, and I especially had fun enlarging the images to see those cracks and crevices where the color found its way in : )

    1. Thanks Dotty....I never grow tired of them. The key for me is to be loose and quick. If I over think or move slowly they don't work out as well.

  2. This is intriguing, MaryAnn! I love the result and wonder what kind of applicator would produce such a fine line. It looks like a fun process!

    1. I think so too...it's really a lot of fun. I'll post more info about the applicators I use for glues and paints.
