Why Wouldn't I?

I love lupin season in Maine. And if you're familiar with the children's book Miss Rumphius....you'll know why.

I was excited to see the lupin blooming at the pond yesterday....every year there are a few more.

Then I was tickled pink to find this patch in a nearby garden on my walk.

So why wouldn't I get right in the car and head into Portland to check out the lupin hill overlooking Back Bay. It's not quite at peak...but it's close...and it was totally worth it.

Why wouldn't I take every opportunity to enjoy the lupin in Maine!

  2. I, too, love lupines. That Rumphius book was one of my daughter's favorites. ;)

  3. The deer seem to love the lupine in my wildflower garden more than I do, this year! The flower tops keep disappearing.

    1. That's interesting. We have a lot of deer in Maine...and I've never know it to be an issue. Sorry your lupin is topless Kristin!

  4. I particularly like the 6th photo with the tall stems with heads on them with the lupine. I’ve not heard of Miss Rumphius so I’ll have to get a copy to share with our granddaughters.

  6. It is kind of strange, they haven’t bothered them in previous years. Hmmm.
