I love lupin season in Maine. And if you're familiar with the children's book Miss Rumphius....you'll know why.
I was excited to see the lupin blooming at the pond yesterday....every year there are a few more.
Then I was tickled pink to find this patch in a nearby garden on my walk.
Why wouldn't I take every opportunity to enjoy the lupin in Maine!
Good job following your impulse to get right in the car and head into Portland to check out the lupine hill overlooking Back Bay, Miss MaryAnn Rumphius! Glad to accompany you vicariously. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming along Dotty!
DeleteI, too, love lupines. That Rumphius book was one of my daughter's favorites. ;)

Nice to know more Rumphius lovers! Thanks Linda!
DeleteThe deer seem to love the lupine in my wildflower garden more than I do, this year! The flower tops keep disappearing.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. We have a lot of deer in Maine...and I've never know it to be an issue. Sorry your lupin is topless Kristin!
DeleteI particularly like the 6th photo with the tall stems with heads on them with the lupine. I’ve not heard of Miss Rumphius so I’ll have to get a copy to share with our granddaughters.
ReplyDeleteI love that one too! I think that is some sort of grass....and yes...looks good with the lupin. Miss Rumphius is wonderful! Barbara Cooney is a Maine author.
DeleteHow wonderful to see that lupin hill - breathtaking!!
ReplyDeleteIt's even more breathtaking in person!
DeleteIt is kind of strange, they haven’t bothered them in previous years. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm Strange indeed.
