Revisiting a special story about a woman who taught me a lot about joy.
Almost 8 years ago Connie enlisted me to help her move into a 2 bedroom apartment at an assisted living facility. She resisted going...but in the end her apartment became a sanctuary with a little balcony garden and close friends near by. She was completely mobile in her electric wheelchair and could easily attend movies, lectures, and even get her hair done at the salon.
Downsizing from a large home to an apartment was quite a task...and equally challenging was downsizing again to a small nursing room 2 years ago. Arranging this room was like putting together a precious puzzle.
The result was a cozy little nest...there was barely room to move around but it worked perfectly.
Treasured gifts and collections, inspiring works of art, family photographs, and her prized oversized clock all had special spots. We even worked in some of her favorite blue willow china above her window and a framed view of her cherished clematis vine overtaking her balcony garden.
It's just the way she wanted it...to be completely surrounded by things she loved and brought her joy.
Looks like a wonderful space.
