"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Bold

As the trees get bigger in our backyard we have less and less sun. I don't know how long I'm going to be able to grow rain lilies here...but I'm going to keep trying. I love the shade...but they love full sun!

There are signs of life in my rain lily pots and often times the pink ones throw up one bloom even before the foliage fills in.  They always look pretty scrappy at first.

So I had one big bold pink bloom greet me this morning.

I wondered if I could trace a stencil through a thick index card using my lightbox.....and the answer is yes!

Once I had it traced in pencil I colored it in with Posca pens and outlined everything in black. And now I have a very bold day two card for the ICAD challenge!
This was the first version below...and the minute I saw this photo I knew it needed something and took it straight to the sewing machine.

The combination of the straight and zigzag stitching breaks up the white and gives it a nice little frame.

I think I have to get more than two cards done before I can say I'm on a roll....but it's a start!

Here's the stencil....I traced just part of the smallest flower.

You can see that I can barely see it with the lightbox on.  But it was enough.

  1. MaryAnn, you're two cards ahead of me so in my eyes (a) you are on a roll and (b) I'm grateful to have the vicarious enjoyment of your creativity! High five for finding a way to trace that stencil through a thick index card and for framing your resulting bloom with stitching.
