"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

What the Heck

....is going on?

Every day I wonder what the heck is going on in our country!....and I keep hoping I'll wake up and learn it's just all a bad dream. But that's not what this post is about...even though it's the biggest thing weighing on my heart right now. Joy...no matter what...I keep telling myself!

This post is about what the heck is going on in my studio!

I am facing the reality that my studio project may be an ongoing thing for the rest of my life. There will be no magical moment when it's done because the minute a surface becomes available I see it as an opportunity to start something new...or revisit something something old. But it's all good...and I'm just joyfully rolling with it.

When Paul and I looked at the condo for the first time....we walked into the large upstairs family room and Paul said "this is the space I've always dreamed of for you." It's a wonderful space....and I know how lucky I am to have it.

The room is big enough to have several zones....and I wrote about my sewing corner a few years ago when it was pretty cleaned up.

It's not this tidy now...but even when it's messy it's a wonderful place to sew and create.
My sewing machine faces out...and you can see the table in front of the window where I sit and watercolor and putter. (another photo from a previous...more tidy time.)

Since we moved here full time 4 years ago I've had the room divided in 1/2 with a large wire bakers rack. On the far right side of the room is a long table where I do my gelli printing and other big messy projects. It works well.
The problem was in the center of the room....the large shelf was big barrier in the room and had to go.

I was hesitant to share this photo....but I wanted to be transparent and give you a little window into my world.

I was in the middle of clearing off the shelf when I took this photo....there was a lot of stuff to look through and/or plop other places. I was sitting in that bright yellow chair you can see in the above photo...going through my precious fodder.

You can't see it, but my gelli printing table is there behind the shelf and bins.

Here is the state of the center of the studio today: the shelf is out....and replaced with a table and if feels SO much better. Even though the room is still in quite a bit in chaos it feels so much more open and welcoming.

And as you can see...I actually have my stripes project there on the new table and have been working on it a little bit here and there.

And there's something new on the table in front of the window I've been playing around with.

And finally....just in case you were wondering what the heck is going on with my amaryllis!

Three blooms are fully open and the 4th may be open by morning. I hope so...because Paul and I are going to Deer Isle for an overnight tomorrow and who knows what it will look like on Thursday afternoon.

(I hope to post a little nugget tomorrow....but I might be late.)

This is a heck of a Mother Nature marvel.

  1. Well that IS a HECK of a Mother Nature marvel.

AND, what the heck IS going on in our country. Your question got a laugh out of me because my daughter and I share a GMIT M (good morning in the morning) greeting each day in which we put a detail about the day at hand in between the GMIT and the M, e.g. GMIT what the HECK is going on M, and today her greeting was as follows: GMIT ghfgwtafatd M. Her acronym was used to mask considerable colorful language!

But I digress. We are busy finding joy. And what a joy it is to be taken on a tour of your studio space. WOW. I thought of you today when I did a quick surface-level-only tidy-up in my own creative space. Even within the limits of a tiny space and minimal goals, like you, I started playing with what I found en route. So it goes! And joyfully so!
