"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

HAHA's

I'm smitten with the variety of colors and textures of zinnias! Yet another...favorite summer bloom!

"My housekeeping style is best described as there appears to have been a struggle."

But there is nothing like impending houseguests to kick me into gear. I've been quietly doing house chores...projects and food prep as I get ready for company. Many of things I've wanted to do for a long time....I even cleaned and vacuumed out the car! I've been picking away at things for a week or two now....and I've been trying to do it all in the framework of joy.

On Friday evening my niece Holly and her family are coming for a week. Her husband is Hikmet, her son Aras is 12, and her daughter Ayla is 9....and we affectionately refer to them as the HAHA's. They spent this last week driving across and exploring Canada...so they will have stories to tell! I've seen photos...they're having a great time!

I'm looking forward to having a house full of family...and I'm excited to show them around and show off southern Maine. I love my state! I am going to focus on my guests....but I still hope to post little nuggets of joy here every day. My timing might be off likely posting later in the evening or early in the mornings. If I miss a day...you'll know why.

Queen Anne's Lace...another fabulous late summer bloom.

  1. Those zinnia petals remind me of folks curling their tongues! And I love your final photo shot from underneath a Queen Anne's lace blossom, looking like fireworks : )

What fun that you'll have the HAHAs with you to create and share joy in the coming week!

LOL that we just emptied out a houseful of guests as you're about to usher a houseful in : )

    1. Ha ha...yes! As I understand it, not all people can curl their tongue. I'll think of that when I look at zinnias now! I'm glad you loved that photo of the Queen Anne's lace too! I know I did!

It is funny that you are just getting back to your normal routine and I'm going to be out of mine for a while. After the HAHAs leave I have a few days between then my friend Becky comes for a week while Paul is away. I'm looking forward to it all.

  2. We loved Queen Anne’s lace when we were kids! My grandma would put them in water with food dye and we would watch them slowly change color!
    Love Zinnia’s, too!

  4. I know what it's like to do the deep cleaning when overnight guests are coming and I love that quote! Your zinnia and Queen Anne's lace photos are lovely, MaryAnn! I know your niece and her family will have a wonderful time with you as their host and there is so much to see and do in southern Maine! Enjoy!!
