"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Independence Day

Be the voice of democracy today and don't let Trump steal your joy. Joyce Vance

Happy Independence Day! Our freedoms and liberties feel especially fragile and vulnerable this year.

It always surprises me when a few leaves on the small chokeberry tree at the corner of our condo start to turn color this time of year. It feels like summer is just getting started...but there are already signs of seasons to come.

Things are always changing...always in motion. Especially Mother Nature.

I cropped up my swirl piece...and have started some handwork.

    1. Thanks Dotty! I can't say that I love it...but it does shout joy. There has been joy in the process...joy in sitting at the sewing machine again...and joy in color and texture!

  2. Your swirl piece is looking fabulous, MaryAnn, and I can't wait to see it with your hand stitching! This Independence Day did seem a bit muted in tone to me as I couldn't help but be worried about the future of our democracy. However, it was a beautiful day and I did try to concentrate on all the positive things going on all around me. Hope you had a good day! Judy

    1. Thanks Judy. I'm not going to spend a ton of time on the hand stitching....because I'm really not in love with the piece...and it already has so much going on. Hand work is hard on my thumbs and hands.

It was a beautiful day yesterday....and that helped soften the sting of the reality of what's going on. We do have to focus on the positive.

  3. So, so pretty. Didn’t think I’d especially care for this but as usual you’ve proved me wrong! Happy Fourth.

    1. Thank Louise! It's funny you should say that. At the beginning I thought I would really love this....because I loved the linen fabric so much. I have gone back and forth between loving it and hating it....and now I'm somewhere in the middle. It's been a good process for me to go through...and it may lead to a piece that hopefully I like more. For the sake of the class...I am taking this one to the finish line. I'm sewing again...and that's a good thing.!
