"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Nudge

There are a couple of summer blooms I just love to watch. The process of unfurling just fascinates me. One of my favorites is coneflower....and I'll share the other one when I see it. Some of you might be able to guess.

I generally take an after dinner walk in the neighborhood...around the pond and down some of the dead end streets. I noticed that my neighbor's small patch of coneflowers were just getting started....and that's all the nudge I needed.

I extended my walk to a nearby neighborhood where I knew there was a larger patch because I wanted to see how they were doing.

They weren't very far along either...but that's OK....because what I love all the stages. I love how the tight center unfurls and tiny green petals emerge.

They start off as tiny stubs...then grow and unfurl into their lovely pink color.

It's so easy to miss how the world gives you quiet gorgeous moments and whispers, this is something I thought you would love. Flying Edna

I enjoy paying attention for the quiet gorgeous moments....but I never mind a little nudge.

  1. And you, dear MaryAnn, inspire me to practice keeping myself open and noticing quiet gorgeous moments one gentle nudge after another. So grateful! Coneflowers are especially fun in their step by step opening, aren't they?! For me today, one guiet gorgeous moment was that of detecting the barely detectable incoming of the tide line at West Beach as we picnicked this evening.

  2. Your little spikies are beautiful. They are much better than the big spikies I’ve been chopping and fighting today. Mine are thick, thorned berry vines taller than the house at one end of the backyard. I want yours 😁

    1. Oh no!!! That sounds horrible. Thorny vines are so tough to deal with. I hope you can get them taking care of so you can enjoy the beautiful ones Louise!

    2. A blessing—next day my neighbor came knocking with his big weedeater in hand and asked if he could attack the berry vines for me. They were at the side that has our shared fence. He (heart of gold but a bit of a bull in a china shop if you know what I mean) so he did in a half day what would have taken me a month or more I’m sure. Now I am working at my pace and getting wonderful, healthy exercise cleaning it all up off the ground at my pace. Because it’s no longer out of control and worrisome for either neighbor I am so very happy. My doctor will be pleased with my gardening exercise which is what I need. Blessings come in all guises when we really need them I am learning and give us JOY😁.
