I've printed and painted a few more cyanotypes....this time using meadow rue leaves.
I don't have the greatest conditions for growing meadow rue...but I keep trying. The blooms are so delicate and airy. I just love them. I didn't get a lot of blooms this year...but the leaves are doing fine.
I started with just one pressed leaf sprig for the first layer under a piece of glass. This is the image that will be white. After a minute or two I added a second sprig under another piece of glass....and finally a third. As the chemical processes in the sun the blue gets darker so the last leaf is the darkest....appearing to be in the background. It continues to be a fascinating process for me.
Here you can see the white and the two shades of blue.
If I want more contrast I just wait longer between layers.
I will admit that I planned to leave this one just the way it was because I really liked it in its original form. Oops!
But I was on a painting roll last night and painted everything I could lay my hands on.
Meadow rue leaves don't turn these bright fall colors...but every artist gets a little creative licence.

Thank you again for being one of the little corners in my day, MaryAnn. I so enjoy being witness to the creative process, and YOUR creative process, feeling the movement from one bit to the next to the next. I especially took delight in your painting everything you could get your hands on and in your exercising artistic license. Each step from start to finish resulted in grand effect.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dotty! I do love sharing my process! Not all of my paintings that evening were a success...but I forged ahead with gusto and joy!
DeleteHow wonderful and beautiful in their natural forms and in your beautiful art! I actually ran across my printing supplies today but I have family visitors arriving so once again I put them away—but someday. You are so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lourise! It's fun getting back into it a bit this summer....it's really all I did last summer. I do hope you give it a try when you have the time. And if you need help in any way...I'm here!
DeleteThe meadow rue leaves are truly lovely and made a beautiful cyanotype! I think the added color really enhanced the design and made for a very pretty card! Judy
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy! I really appreciate your kind words. Mother Nature gives us a good starting point...but as artists we can have some fun!
