Hope is what we do when the odds are long and the options limited. It is the stubborn act of trying when despair feels easier. Rather than passive optimism, hope is the commitment of those who believe they can make a difference, however small.
Hope is not a promise. It is not a guarantee of success. It is the courage to act in the face of uncertainty. And right now, in this fragile moment for our democracy, it is the most important responsibility we share. Marc Ellis, Democracy Docket
The sedum is starting to turn red...a sign of the late summer season...and the bees are busy.Today was a house day...through and through. I was joined for a few hours by a new cleaning lady...that always kicks me into gear. She's actually also an artist and thinks of cleaning as an art. How awesome is that!
I tended to all kinds of house things big and small including putting a new blade in my utility knife. A small task...with big payoff.

And speaking of Becky...look what I finished today during lunch. This was a fun one...and went together pretty fast.
Thanks Becky! It was nice having you woven into my day today!

Thanks for your message re hope, MaryAnn. I never get tired of hearing and sharing such messages.
ReplyDeleteAnd I never tire of hearing stories of small acts/tasks. This post was a delight, with its sedum starting to strut its color, your utility knife sporting its new blade, your new cleaning-as-an-art cleaning lady, your hall closet reorg proving its worth, and your beach trash puzzle looking gloriously elegant and untrashlike! What a terrific puzzle!
Thanks Dotty! Same here! We have to believe there is hope and I don't mind hearing it over and over.
DeleteIt's kind of funny how something as small as knowing where the blades for the utility knife were in the closet....then actually putting a new one in could make such a difference in my day!
And yes...the puzzle designer made the beach trash interesting and fun.
I didn't see yesterday's post until now, MaryAnn, and it moved me so much I'm commenting here so you'll see it. I am in love with the idea of sharing journals, an artist and a poet - how beautiful. I lost my best friend of more than 50 years to lung cancer five years ago and wish I had done something like that with her. It is such a lovely idea. As for your post today, I understand how changing a utility knife blade can feel good - or a rotary cutter blade or new lead in a mechanical pencil!! Have a good day, MaryAnn! Judy
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how wonderful shared journaling...and shared art is. I've done it in so many forms....too many to even name. Art and journal trades and shares and trades are my very favorite thing to do.
DeleteI am sorry about your friend...but maybe the best way for you to remember her is to start something up with someone else. In memory of her.
Yes yes yes on the utility knife blade. And FYI...I get an email on every comment that is made...no matter how long ago the post was. Thanks for being such a great contributor here. It warms my heart to see your name pop up!
What a nice post. Love it
ReplyDeleteThanks Becky! It was a fabulous day!
