"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

A Little Crooked

I feel a little paralyzed when I walk into my studio these days....I just can't seem to get things flowing. I know I'll get there....and then there will be no stopping me.

So for now I'm working on this and that including home tasks and projects. I still have things to finish in the garage...and I'm picking away at that....but I was feeling a little restless today. I remembered reading somewhere that if you want to instantly improve the quality of your life...clean out a closet.

I didn't tackle a closet...but I did clean out the catch-all gadget and tool drawer in the kitchen. Thanks to Becky......I had established places and spaces in the hall closet for things that didn't need to be in the drawer and I got let go of things we didn't need.

Here's the before and after. It's not flashy...but it makes me happy!

I had to chuckle when I lined up all the screwdrivers on the island....it was a bit ridiculous how many were crammed into this drawer.

Another funny thing was that I was looking for my small level the whole time I was hanging things in the garage. It should have been in the hall closet...but it wasn't.

I shared the "before" photo above with Becky...and only when I looked at the photo did I see that the level was in the drawer the whole time. Hidden in plain sight! Can you find it???

But NOW...it's in the closet where it belongs. And I will chuckle when I walk into my garage and embrace all the things that are a little crooked.

  1. The risk in reading a post of this sort is that I come away thinking I've decluttered, cleaned up, pitched, recycle, organized, and tidied when *I* haven't—YOU have! Even so, VERY satisfying. And I found that level!!!

I had a great time looking through your after photo, thinking about where each of its counterpart inhabitants lives in my own home : )

    1. Thanks for celebrating this small victory with me. It was a silly little post about a small project with a big payoff.

  2. Ah yes, MaryAnn! Cleaning out a drawer or closet is so satisfying and your gadget/tool drawer looks great! I've been working on a lot of decluttering since we've had new windows installed. Moving things around for the workmen has opened my eyes to so many areas that need to be reorganized. I hope your creativity starts to flow again soon - I know it will! You are such a creative soul! 1. Doesn't it feel good to declutter! So glad you've gotten a start too.

I think once things outside...including the garage are completely done I'll start nesting inside. I've just been a bit of an art funk lately....but I'll get over it I know!
