Sometimes joy looks like a day filled with connections and self care. Today was one of those days....and I just rolled with it. It's just the kind of day I needed.
I had coffee with a neighbor this morning I hadn't seen in a while. Rebecca and I traded family stories and caught up on our shared life here in Parsons Pond. (She and I were on the board together several years ago.) A good visit with Rebecca was just what I needed.Right from there I went on to PT to deal with my ongoing issues with sciatica. I'm not one to talk about my health issues here...but good habits have come from this which are positively impacting my overall health.
I'm six weeks in. I do the stretches every day....and actually look forward to them. I'm also on a three day rotation of (simple and manageable) core, upper...and lower body strength exercises and I've not missed a day. I've needed to do this for years but just couldn't get regular routine established. Sciatica is the thing that kicked me in gear and I am hoping pretty certain that I will keep it up even after the sciatica is resolved. It's just what I need to do.
I missed a call from Becky while I was at PT...so called her when I got home. We talked for a LONG time and caught up on just about everything. A good chat with a lifelong friend is just what I needed.
Then I did my stretches...having done the core work rotation while at PT.
Then it was time for happy hour....and that is always just what I need at 4:00. I sipped my hot tea and enjoyed the ambiance of the lower light of early fall while Paul and I caught each other up on our days.
Dinner....and my early evening routine which included catching up on texts from Emily and Ann complete with funny links and fabulous photos.
Phew!
Self care...and connecting with people I love and care about....is just what I needed today. I hope you got some of what you needed today.

Kudos to you, MaryAnn, for your new faithfulness to life enhancing exercise. I have stayed committed to my own routines but I'm thinking a review of those routines might be beneficial. Loved hearing about the pieces of your connections and self-care today. An all-day rainy day can provide the perfect setting for just such connection and self-care, and we sure do need the rain. We capped our day with an in-car picnic at West Beach while watching two surfers enjoying the waves generated by the nor-easter; surfing is not typical fare here!
ReplyDeleteThanks for cheering me on Dotty! At our age...these routines are so important. If I do everything I'm supposed to do for my health...it's about 1/2 my day!
DeleteI'm jealous...we did not get a bit of rain with this nor'easter! We so badly need it. I'm smiling thinking about your in-car picnic at the beach. You two are adorable!
