There are lots of house and garage projects and chores that need my attention....a few of which I'm plugging away at....but I'd really rather just make something.
As I've shared...I've been doing little practice pieces for the Swirls 2.0 class...but just recently got started a more traditional swirl I hope I can develop as a final project for the class. It's got a long way to go with more stitching, fibers and fabrics...and finally handwork and beads.
My color scheme is inspired by this linen which is from a thrifted blouse I bought several years ago. I've always loved it and so far there are three chunks of it in the piece.
Here's how it started as I tried to get the right swoops and curves. It's kind of tricky.
The paper is all from a Gudrun's catalog.
Basically this is the bones of the piece. I tried to alternate been house chores and stitching today. I had a couple of missteps with adding the right green...but I'm working on resolving it.
Here's where it was yesterday before I started adding decorative stitches and fibers.
I'm making something!

You are making glorious swirly hay while the sun shines—and shine it did today, like a blast furnace! The feeling of movement that you've set up with the bones of your piece carry strong fluid movement, MaryAnn, like a delicious cooling breeze off the ocean on this early-summer-by-the-calendar-height-of-summer-by-the-intense-heat day. The mix of complementary and analogous colors is very captivating.
ReplyDeleteIt was a furnace out there yesterday...and will be again today.
DeleteThank you Dotty for the "poetic sounding" observations of the swirl. However....after looking at it in photos...I've already changed a few things in these bones that didn't seem right. I'll get there. It is an interesting mix of colors...and I thought if they work in the blouse...they will work in the swirl. We'll see.
You hooked me with that yummy scrap of fabric! I’m in love 😁
ReplyDeleteOh that makes me so happy Louise! I'm always on the lookout for interesting fabrics at the Goodwill store! This blouse was quite a find!
DeleteSuch a wonderful start, MaryAnn! I'm excited to see what you do with this! I too believe that a day that includes making some art is a very good day! Judy
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Judy! We'll see how it actually comes out.
