"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Small Town Vibe

One of the first times Paul and I visited Cape Cod we saw one beautiful white sandy beach after another. Pretty soon they all started looking the same. But it was a delight...and we kept looking.

So I had to chuckle when I was reminded of that the last couple of days as we have walked...and golf carted around the island.....seeing one beautiful lupin field after another that they're all starting to look the same.

 But it's such a delight...so we'll keep looking.

I am starting to look for interesting backdrops....just to change it up.
There is no shortage of photo ops...so you haven't seen the last of the lupin.

I am horrified and saddened about what has happened in Minnesota. Violence is never OK.

At first I was a little disappointed that I wasn't going to be in Portland for today's No Kings Protest. It's energizing for me to be part of a mass gathering and reminds me how many people understand the trouble we're in. There is strength in numbers.

I do wish....however...that there was nothing we needed to protest.

But it was just as powerful to be part of a protest with a small town vibe. There can also be strength with even just a few.

Paul and I walked with about 20 local Cranberry Island folks from the church down to dock...and we picked up a few along the way.

There was laughter and joy as we walked....all hoping for a better world.

This is what democracy looks like!
Choose Love! Do the Right Thing!

I still have hope that our democracy will survive.

  1. THANK YOU for posting your small-town-vibe Cranberry Island walk for democracy, MaryAnn! I was wondering this afternoon if CI would participate with the nationwide protests today in some way. AND THEY DID. Warms my heart. Glad to have you as a gal on the ground reporting.

    1. I'm chuckling at your "gal on the ground" line. I'll take it. There was really something powerful walking with these temporary neighbors. THANK YOU for appreciating that Dotty!

  2. Thank you for protesting today! I think the numbers from the 2100 nationwide protests will be huge, judging from what I saw, participated in and read about today. We the PEOPLE! My favorite sign from among many today: IKEA has better Cabinets. Creativity is alive and well in this country.

    1. I was so happy that they were doing something here on the island. I have seen some of the photos of the impressive crowds...and this little groups was just as impressive.

I have not been very creative with my signs....and I absolutely love the IKEA one. Thank you for sharing that! WE THE PEOPLE!

  3. Oh my goodness, the lupin is just beautiful! I loved the small but enthusiastic protest you were part of!! My husband and I joined our first protest yesterday - relatively small but teaming with good, honest, concerned people. It felt so good to do it and we'll probably do it again. So good to see people using their first amendment rights!!

So you and your husband got out for a protest...it does feel good to be with like minded people! I really enjoyed our small little group!
