"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Process and Potential

Subtitle: Do What You Love!

January 1st seemed like a good day to start some new...but also something familiar and comfortable. I've had a pile of art papers from Roseanne and a blank art journal to alter since mid November. Today was the right day to get started.

I love the process and the potential the journal holds for the recipient for more art and play.

I love that the papers are all Roseanne's...although I may tuck a few of mine here and there.

I love tearing the pages...then stitching in something new.

I love curating the papers to create interest and flow.

I love the side view.

I love watching the journal evolve and get chunky.

I love finding something I could cut out and stitch in.

Then I loved finding the right contrasting paper for underneath....

...that coordinated beautifully with the paper on the opposite page
leaving the middle for anything Roseanne wants to add.

And I love little colorful moments that make me smile.

Here's to starting a process I love on this first day of the new year!

Bring on 2026! There's nothing but potential

  1. MaryAnn, the altered journals you make are FABULOUS—they showcase your eye for all elements artistic, and the joy you feel as you create just radiates from the journal. PERFECT way to start a new year! For sure: Do What You Love!

    1. Thanks Dotty! I guess it's clear by now that I enjoy this process. And getting to do it for others is what I like most.

  2. Wonderful to see your new project emerging. It’s already fun. And I’m happy that yours is going better than mine today. I had my first foray into resin with a grand fail but it’s going to be fun, too. That’s how we learn and I can’t wait for my next try. A toast to a creative, joyful 2026, MaryAnn!

    1. Thanks Louise! I can't tell you how many epic fails I've had....I should report on those more often than I do. I'm sure you'll get the hang on resin...something I've never done! We do learn by doing! Happy New Year!

  3. So glad you started the year off doing something you love, MaryAnn! It looks like a terrific art journal and I love the phrase 'colorful moments'!! I also enjoyed your last post and finding out that Pete was your mystery man. I thought I left a comment, but maybe not. Hope your day is filled with colorful moments and much joy!
