We had a great time in southern Iowa....but today it was time for the road trip back to Minneapolis. Thanks Aunt Beverly!
"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

There are many beautiful architectural and functional structures in their yard....and some of my favorites are these trellises with the little red windows. I wrote about them a couple years ago in this post called "Oasis in the City"...but I'm celebrating them again. This one has a kiwi plant growing on it.
I'm so lucky to be spending a week with my sister Nancy....some of the time at her house in Minneapolis...and some of the time visiting our Aunt Beverly in Iowa. Minneapolis is one of my favorite cities! Yay!
It included a morning walk with Anita, project group at church with interesting and wonderful women, lunch downtown with my son Sam, a few chores at home, a call from my sister Angie, a quick after work visit with Paul (we celebrated on the weekend), dinner with Connie, and the start of a new evening art class through the Lexington community programs. (more on that later...it's going to be awesome!)
Perfect morning for a walk.

Some friends and I stopped in to see the new "Impressions" exhibition at Gallery Blink today. I highly recommend it!

I felt like a kid playing "I Spy" when I cleaned out my bird houses in the back yard a few days ago....I was fascinated by what I found inside. This one was jammed packed full of really cool stuff.
I couldn't believe how many little sticks, feathers, and fibers I scraped out. I was quite fond of the red and gray feather and what's not to love about the blue paper strips. I'm not sure what it is...but I'm guessing some sort of packing material from someone's trash.
I'm playing catch up with Folt Bolt's January color scheme.
I backed the fabric with fusible and I cut away parts that wouldn't show. You know I don't like to waste fused fabric. Below is what the back looks like...just like the front with just a little overlap for fusing.

Then I started topstitching. I chose a chevron pattern for the vase...I wanted to create simple texture.
