"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Here They Go Again!

It rained all day today so it's a perfect day to report on my first rain lily blooms.

The original bulbs came from my sister LaVonn 10 years ago. I bring the pots inside every winter when they are dormant...and put them back out every spring. When I repot them every few years I'm amazed at how they've multiplied...and I enjoy sharing bulbs with friends.

I've written about them many many times over the years...so they are probably pretty familiar to many of you. They often throw off a few blooms before the foliage gets established....and here they go again.
We had dinner and played cards with Jay and Janice last night (always a delight!)...and Janice's blooms put mine to shame. You can see that hers have almost no foliage yet...but look at all those blooms!

Janice crafted a fabulous seafood stew....and at one point she went outside and brought in a big container of parsley to clip from for the stew. I chuckled when she came in the door with it...and now I'm smiling that but bunch made it into my photo there on the right.
Janice's mountain bluet were in full bloom too! I love the June gardens....

and I love this whimsical bloom!

  1. The rain lilies are spectacular; even w/o much of their own greenery yet, they are set off strikingly by the lush spring greenery surrounding them, including the parsley! Love the mountain bluets—are they also known as bachelor's buttons and as bluebonnets?? Your recent flora postings have had me thinking of you often, MaryAnn, as I go about my days noticing flowers that you've showcased here at your blog. Thank you!
