"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Subtle and Small

The enkianthus blooms along the side of our condo capture my heart every spring....I've written about them several times.

They are tucked in the shrub...dangle in downward facing clusters and are quite subtle and small. But up close they are just spectacular.

  1. MaryAnn, thank you for getting up close and personal with the enkianthus blooms alongside your condo, letting us share in the glory and wonder of those small subtle delicacies. All winter, that plant was dormant and most likely went unnoticed in any differentiated way. And then, SHAZAM!, here they are to dazzled us, seemingly out of 'nowhere.' Pure awe. When I saw the 1st photo on my screen it instantly evoked memories from when I was 10 or 11 of reading British children's novels about faeries, sprites, pixies, and the like : )

    1. Well said Dotty! I think about these kinds of things all the time! I am constantly amazed at how things in nature go from being dormant in the winter to, using your word, SHAZAM!. And I agree...these little bells are very fairy like. They look like delicate little petticoats.
