"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Confetti Painting

Thank you for all the kind comments...texts...and emails about Joyful Puttering reaching 10 years. I forgot to mention that Paul pointed out that I've been doing this for a little over 15% of my life! And as I was texting back and forth with Becky (who I've known since I was 5) I was reminded that she is the one who planted the seed for me to start a blog way back when. I didn't get going right away because I wasn't confident in my writing...or that enough others would be interested in what I was doing. I got up my nerve eventually.

I was inspired by a post from Alexandra Mathias this morning....and decided it was time to do a little painting.

Alexandra painted confetti type dots and blobs....with a blended background that you can see on her Instagram page using the link above. She calls it Watercolor Meditation and it gets her into a flow state.

After a little practice piece I went straight to my watercolor art journal and found a page that needed a companion.

I think it could have used a little more white space...but overall I think it's a soft and whimsical background for something.

This is a close-up of the companion page
I did a while back inspired by Karen Elaine.

I started with a whole page of confetti watercolor dots and blobs.

It was very calming to sit at my table in the studio and just paint....for no other reason than just to paint.

Once it was dry....I went back in with either just water or a very light wash of color to blend and fill in some of the background.

I might try it again doing some of the wash first...then confetti painting on top.

The page definitely needs something....so I auditioned several things I had laying around...and I think doodle flowers might be the winner. I will make a handful of them a little larger and more bold and create a focal point.
But that's for another day!

  1. I so love observing your process, watching the magical connections you make, taking pleasure in the colors you choose, drawing inspiration from your pluck and adventuring. The piece with which you've paired your confetti start makes for a promising companion!

    1. Thanks Dotty! You always know how to make what I do sound so glorious. I'll take it! But it sure felt good to do some simple painting...just because I could. I haven't done that in a while.
