"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Inside Awe Walk

Yesterday's post prompted Tracie to do an inside awe walk....and the first thing that caught her attention was this beautiful bowl of oranges in her kitchen. The color...the shadows....the dotted background...it was awe inspiring! Thanks Tracie!

Dacher Keltner identified 8 wonders of life that can inspire awe. They can be found anywhere...inside or out. And they can be a simple as a bowl of fruit on your counter. Awe is in the eye of the beholder!

Nature

Music

Visual design, art, and culture

Moral beauty, other people's kindness and courage

Collective effervescence, that feeling you get at a ballpark or yoga class

Spiritual experiences

Epiphanies, big ideas and dreams

Life and Death, the feeling that everyday is precious

  1. These awe-some posts about awe are powerful, MaryAnn. Thank you! At dinnertime today I could feel a sinking feeling in my body and realized it was an unexpected response to a bit of input from earlier in the day. I paused to acknowledge and accept rather than resist the feeling, which allowed my heart to open just enough to wonder if I could redirect myself to seek a bit of awe. And I did. I found myself riveted by the cucumber I'd sliced into my dinner salad. Truly: total miracle, that cucumber!

    1. Thank you Dotty. Even though I feel like I've been an awe seeker without really naming it that....I'm finding this powerful too. It's always good to reframe what we think we already know.

Thank you for sharing your story of redirecting your heart. Cucumbers ARE a miracle...and isn't it wonderful that you paused to notice!
