(Just a reminder that if you are reading blog posts via email sometimes the photos are way out of proportion....and I don't know why or how to fix it. I have at least a dozen studio projects in my head that I've been itching to do....but I made a spontaneous decision to sign up for a quick course by Jane Davies called The Visual Sentence. I am hoping it will help me loosen up and improve my printing and collage skills.....and maybe it will inspire me to get back to my Jane Davies inspired stripes project this summer.
So I spent the afternoon with my gelli plate doing the first couple of steps in the process....layering shapes with hand cut stencils and making bold gestures with paint and color.Pieces and parts of these will eventually become visual words....that will join together to become visual sentences (hopefully). Finally we will embellish with paint and collage....and in the end maybe our sentences will even tell a little story.
One can dream.... spontaneously!

Outstanding, MaryAnn! I've been taking note of Jane's visual sentence posts with interest and, even though I haven't signed up for her course, it did cross my mind to do so, but now YOU are taking it and I'm so excited! I'll be most eager to follow the fun you have with your visual sentences. I'm wagging my tail!
ReplyDeleteOften taking a class gives me focus and direction. I think I needed a kickstart getting back to my own art practice...and this seemed like a good place to start. Collage does not come easy for me and I was so intrigued with the idea of a visual sentence....and I needed some guidance....or a kick in the pants! We'll see!
DeleteOh, Jane’s work is golden. I can’t wait to see what you create.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see Roseanne! I think it's an interesting process...it should be a fun little journaly. I'll be sure to share my progress....no matter how it goes!
DeleteI have been in my favorite state for the last few days so I have missed reading your posts. So- the little T-rex made me laugh as I have his matching brother sitting on my kitchen counter! A same size bendable Olive Oil sits next to him- and you never know what those two will be doing- whispering, dancing, walking! It's always a surprise. Also- the color in the last posts is just so fantastic! While I always read your posts- just looking at the pictures like a 4 year old gave me great big colorful rush. The gelli print picture on the left today - oh how I wish that was fabric as I would buy every last inch of it!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is such a pleasure every day-
Kathy
Is you favorite state WI by any chance? I'm smiling about your T-rex....it seems we have more and more common ground. And the fact that you have a bendable Olive Oil next to him and you think about what the two might be up to just makes me smile from ear to ear. We have a bendable pink panther...that may now get moved to where it can play with T-rex!
DeleteThanks for cheering on the colorful papers...yes...that would make fun fabric!
But most of all...thank you for following along and sharing your joy with me!
Wow, so inspiring, MaryAnn! Love your shapes and colors! Can't wait to see you use these in your artwork - well, they in themselves are pieces of art!
ReplyDeleteThank you thank you thank you! I am always second guessing things so I appreciate the thumbs up! Today I'll start turning them into "visual words."
