"I can tell you with certainty that simplicity is one of the truly precious things in this life." Annie TraurigMy friend Becky sent me this photo recently while she was poking around vintage resale shops. She knows me well.
"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint
I posted this yesterday and my friend Amy commented "There's just something about blue".....and I couldn't agree more.

I will likely have to stitch more petal clusters but will eventually fuse them down. I can't wait to add the center beads...they're going to make a huge difference. I may even leave a few petals loose...giving it a more depth and texture. Once I fuse on the little "Joy" I will stitch around it and the vase.![]() |

One of the best parts about going to Martha's house is getting to see the carvings done by her husband Rob. He carved the little "Joy" that moves around my house but has a permanent spot on the top of my blog. I wrote about Rob and Martha here.
And it's always fun to see a work in progress! Thanks Martha for a fun field trip...and thanks Rob for the eye candy! And...by the way...we did pick a paint color.
Just one blossom....a whole bouquet? How could I make it work? My first thought was to cut out and fuse individual petals....but that could get tedious. I knew stitching would be an important element...so I kept mulling it over.
One of the first things I did this morning was give it a try. I chose a piece of vibrant blue hand dyed fabric and backed it with Wonder Under. Then I free motion quilted a set of petals and cut it out. I can see in this photo that I need to dust my sewing machine.
Last Saturday Paul and I took a little destination drive to Littleton and had lunch at the Gallery 529 Cafe. It was the perfect combo of interesting art, good food....and even better company. I even got to color a little bit while we waited for our food.
My favorite piece was this funky mobile....it might have come home with me but it wasn't for sale. It was simply wire and tissue and it reminded me of fabric flowers I used to make when I was young. I absolutely loved it and am going to give it a try at some point.
I found this image online....just like I remember.
I have talked quite a bit about Connie on this blog. As a matter of fact if you put her name in the little search box in the upper left hand corner more than 40 posts come up where her name is mentioned. That even surprised me. I've been Connie's friend, decorator, gardener, seamstress, caregiver, driver, and errand girl. We've spent hours and hours crafting, problem solving, and puttering....she is an inspiration and a role model. My fist post about her was called "Let Me Introduce You to Connie" in the first weeks of this blog and she has been a regular presence ever since. It was always with her permission and she has loved reading her stories here so I know she won't mind if I continue.
I'm going to pause this blog and regroup for a few days. I'm not going anywhere....I'm just going to catch my breath and tend to some of these things and give them the attention and energy they deserve. And...I'm going to start a new puzzle....this crazy one I got from my sister LaVonn.
I've said it before and I'll say it again....I love wooden paint panels. They are inexpensive and have a multitude of uses. In this case I used them to turn colorful wrapping paper into wall art. Last time I was in Portland I stopped at my favorite art store to pick up a few more panels. I had plenty to choose from....it was paint panel heaven.
Yes....children are welcome here.
I'm even going to back track and tackle the January scheme which was reds and aqua blues.
