"Direction is so much more important than speed." Phew!
We started our walk like we always do....circling the pond. And this morning we were treated to this perfect wake from the ducks as they glided through the water. We're happy the ice is finally gone....but even more excited about our new neighbors.
A pair of Common Merganser ducks have moved in and I'm going to call them Harry and Sally. Although we learned they've been here before....this is the first time we've seen them. Friends also said they generally don't stay....but they've been here two mornings now...so we'll just take one day at a time.
The male has a white body, a black head, and a long narrow red bill. You can spot him from quite a distance. The female has a more speckled gray/white body and a rusty cinnamon head.
These are online images....and I love the hairdo on the female. I certainly hope they settle in and raise a family here.
Just before I published this post I stepped outside to check out this beautiful sky....and I could hear the ducks honking at the pond. It was nice to start...and end the day with the new neighbors. Joy!
