"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

First Blooms

"If you've never had a defining moment in your childhood or your life where you realize your skin color alone makes other people hate you, you have white privilege."
Lori Lakin Hutcherson

As expected the first blooms of rain lilies at the condo opened this morning and Paul sent me these photos so I could enjoy them from afar.

It may seem like a small thing....but it's actually a huge thing if you let it be.  Joy is like that sometimes.  Thanks Paul!

I read an article this morning where Lori Lakin Hutcherson, a black woman, responded to her white friend asking for personal insight into white privilege and her experience with racism.  I want to learn.  The article can be found here.

"White privilege is being able to move into a "nice" neighborhood and be accepted...not harassed."
Lori Lakin Hutcherson

"If you've never had to mask the fruits of your success with a floppy-eared, stuffed bunny rabbit so you won't get harassed by the cops on the way home from your gainful employment (or never had a first date start this way), you have white privilege."
Lori Lakin Hutcherson

You may have to read the article to understand the context of that last one.
