"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Places and Spaces

I took advantage of a warmish sunny day and had a little field trip downtown.  I love exploring Portland....this time I was looking for light and shadows and abstract angles as part of an exercise for the Conscious Creativity class. The best thing about taking a class like this is that it gets me out my head and normal routine and takes me to places and spaces I don't often make time for.  And that's a good thing.

These were some of my favorite shadows.

I was quite take with fence shadows.

I was also looking for opposites....and I thought these two images couldn't have been more opposite.  Similar colors....but one was ordered and soft...and the other was chaotic and hard.

This abstract angle shot works on a couple levels.  The mural is a literal abstract art piece of angles...and another angle is created where the buildings meet.

And a bonus I didn't notice until I uploaded the photo is that fabulous reflection of the tree in the window.

Exploring places and spaces is a good thing.

  1. I thoroughly embrace(s) the places and spaces of this post, MaryAnn! THANK YOU for vicariously/virtually getting ME out my head and normal routine and taking me to places and spaces I don't often make time for. Much needed and welcomed with arms opened wide. Light and shadows: can't beat 'em. And I love the idea of being on the alert for opposites.
