"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

The Lost Kitchen

It was a field trip day......and I'm calling it Star Stuck Saturday.

Paul and I headed an hour and a half north and east to Freedom, Maine....and visited a Holiday Market at The Lost Kitchen. It was an absolute delight.

You may have heard of it....The Lost Kitchen is a small restaurant in an old Grist Mill in rural Maine run by Erin French.....and it's become pretty famous.

The Lost Kitchen, the TV showis in its 3rd season on the Magnolia Network....and I haven't missed an episode.  Erin's restaurant...and her amazing comeback story have captured my heart and I appreciate and admire how she supports the local farmers, fishermen, and gardeners by using what's in season locally in every meal she cooks. Many of these small business are featured on her show.

If you watch the show....you will recognize the footbridge that crosses Sandy Stream and gets you from the parking lot to the mill, the restaurant, and the store.

The store is charming...filled with pottery....kitchen and home goods and books from local artisans and businesses.

It was fun to see Erin busy at the counter checking out guests....she's a hands on small town woman.  She was just as genuine and charming as she comes across on the show. She's just delightful!
I was a little star-struck....on Star Struck Saturday.

The restaurant is only open from May to October...but I got a glimpse of the space through the glass doors.  It's smaller than I pictured. It's intimate and rustic....and simply beautiful. They don't take reservations....you have to send in a postcard and seats are granted by lottery.  I send in a card every year....one of about 20,000+....maybe I'll get lucky someday.

If you watch the show...or know about Erin's story...you'll recognize the Airstream Travel Trailer.  When she was re-starting her career she used the Airstream as a mobile restaurant....and she still cooks from it it now and again for some of her dinners.  The guy in the orange hat is Michael, her husband, who is just as adorable in person as he is on the show.

This sign was outside of the restaurant doors....and it pretty much says it all.  Magic can happen if we work work hard and are nice to people. Erin French has figured that out. She has created magic!

Here are a couple of youtube videos if you're interested in learning more about Erin and The Lost Kitchen.
