"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Game Changer

We're still in the very beginning stages of Wendy Solganik's Watercolor for Relaxation course....and I'm finding the videos and the painting process quite enjoyable and YES....relaxing.

These are a couple homework pages....painting within hand drawn shapes....and color mixing with limited colors and a little mud.

The value of adding a mud (mixture of all your colors) to unify and tone down pure colors is not new to me....I just forget to do it.  Wendy does an excellent job of sharing her tips and tricks for color mixing...and I know I will benefit from her guidance.

I didn't use mud in the blue piece...but did in the pink one and there is so much more harmony and cohesion.

Wendy is helping me relearn that mud is a game changer.

And I did add polka dots and some outlining to the daisy piece...It's kind of goofy....but I had fun with it.

I also started adding asemic writing around the leaves on the opposite page...and just today added the tone on tone inner shapes.  Both of these pieces were done with stencils...and that is another game changer for me!!!

  1. Oh my gosh, your mud is magnificent! Thank you for the reminder!

And I am thoroughly delighted to be a fly on the wall observing what emerges as you take the class with Wendy, bringing your MaryAnn spin to it. Your work is scrumptious!
