"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Sight To Behold

Before taking Margie to an appointment this morning I stopped in her apartment to check out the amaryllis.  She called it a "sight to behold."

There were two large blooms fully open and it looks like several more are coming.

I was most interested in the lines and architecture of it.  The delicate curls....the dark edges and veining...and the layers of translucency.

 It was...a sight to behold.

It's still a funny looking thing...kind of a freak of nature on that tall stem without leaves.  But it's been fun....and she said she could see it opening up from one minute to the next yesterday.

And Margie had the large floral puzzle I did a while ago almost done on her table. It too....was a sight to behold.
I cut up what was left of one of my watercolor doodles this afternoon. When I trace the hearts on the back....I have no idea where the cuts are going to land on the front. Each one is so interesting....so much better than the larger piece.

I think the tiny ones are adorable.

Art Hearts....a sight to behold....?
I took that title too far didn't I!

  1. Your close-up photos of the amaryllis blossoms showcase them spectacularly (leaving the freak of nature stem to do its own thing!). I felt a bit of Georgia O'Keefe energy : )

Thanks for showcasing more of your art hearts, also. They are terrific, and you amplify their beauty further with your excellent 'staging.' I plan to scour my stash of such doodlefodder to see what I can come up with. Like you, I love to trace shapes on the back of such fodder to make 'blind' cuts and see what fabulous found compositions emerge.

    1. Thanks Kathy! I'm having fun with the hearts....but need to start doing something with them. And I'm so glad you agree with the "wow" of the amaryllis!

  3. Amaryllis are some of my very favorites, and this is a particularly pretty one! After “forcing” the bulbs at the holidays, I plant them in the garden to bloom the next year. After the blooms finish, they eventually get long leaves.

    1. Thanks Christine! I really didn't know anything about them.....but am not surprised that you can plant them in the garden. I'm wondering what climate and conditions they need....I'll have to do some research. It also so interesting that the leaves come after. It's kind of like a magnolia tree....large beautiful blooms with the leaves coming later.
