"I do believe in an everyday sort of magic...the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art and the like; the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence, when we think we're alone." Charles de Lint

Pinks and Greens and Yellows

Patty shared this photo with me this morning........it's a pink-edged sulphur butterfly that has recently been named the Maine State Butterfly. Such a pretty yellow...and the subtle pink edges are so sweet. Pink and yellow are a such nice combo.

Pink and green are a nice combo too!

It would have been really easy to walk by this tulip patch this morning....from a distance it looked kind of scruffy.  But I was drawn in....and it did not disappoint.

It's always worth taking a closer look.

The petals almost appeared to be dancing....they were lacey and lovely.

This view they almost looked like an orchid.

It was hard to stop looking.....and photographing.
Paul was walking in circles....again.

The pink and green color scheme got me thinking about my enkianthus shrubs along the side of my condo.  Sure enough....there they were...these sweet little pink, cream. and green blooms tucked in under the leaves.

You can see how subtle they are.

It took me right back to this little painting I did several years ago
inspired by the enkianthus blooms.

I cut the painting up a few months ago to make a few cards....and I think some of the pieces got tucked into some of the "Ounce of Joy" envelopes.

I enjoyed my yellow....and pink...and green journey today!

  1. Thank you for taking me up close and personal here, MaryAnn. Those tulips—fancy dancy! Those enkianthus blooms—sweet! Your abstraction of the enkianthus—brilliant! Your cut-ups—inviting me to get playful!

  2. Your pink and green watercolor study reminds me of a 2.5" strip pack that my local quilt shop used to make up each spring to honor the famous DC cherry blossoms. The collection was done in all batiks that they curated from their shelves. The packs were a limited number, so if you wanted one you had to get in there that same day that they were announced. Sadly, they stopped making them up after the 2019 collection.

Anyway, is that pink/green flower a tulip or an iris? It could go either way for me. They are lovely! Thanks for sharing!

    1. I probably would have loved those strip packs. It seems that the popularity would have kept it going! Did you ever get one? I can the iris quality of the flower...but I am pretty certain they are tulips based on leaf and stem quality. I certainly was taken with them.

    2. I never did get one of those strip packs, but really loved them. I think that the person who curated the fabric selections moved on to a new job opportunity.

  3. I love seeing what you're working on! I wish I had (or took) more time to do art. I think it would take 100 years to finish everything that I already have in progress.
